Atlas Arquitetos: a site where

the buildings talk.

the buildings talk.

the buildings talk.

Atlas is a twelve-person architecture practice in Porto. I designed and built their portfolio site, with a CMS the partners update themselves after every finished project.

Overview

Architects photograph their work with enormous care. Most of their websites then shrink it into a thumbnail grid.

Atlas had award-winning buildings and a site that hid them behind sliders, intro animations and a long studio manifesto. Clients told the partners they had to send PDFs to show their work properly.

We set out to make the photography the interface. Large images, very little chrome and project pages that read like a short walk through each building.

Approach

Three decisions that shaped it.

01

Photography first

Each project opens on a full-width image and a single line of text. Plans, credits and facts come after the photos, for the visitors who want them.

02

A grid that breathes

The project index uses one, two and three column rows in a fixed rhythm, so buildings of any proportion sit well together without cropping.

03

A CMS the partners use

Every project is one CMS entry with clear fields and image guidance. The partners publish a finished building in about twenty minutes.

03

Light studies for the image-first project grid.

Outcome

“We finally stopped sending PDFs. The site shows the buildings the way we see them.”

The site launched in autumn 2024. The partners have added more than forty projects since, and the practice now points new clients to the website first instead of a portfolio file.
