Oda Ceramics: a slow shop for

hand-thrown things.

hand-thrown things.

Oda is a two-person ceramics studio near Caldas da Rainha. I designed their identity, packaging and online shop, so every piece arrives online with the same care it gets on the wheel.

Overview

Handmade pieces lose something on a white product grid. The shop had to feel closer to the studio table than to a catalogue.

Oda sold through markets and Instagram messages. Every order meant a long thread about sizes, glazes and shipping, and the founders spent their evenings answering questions instead of making new work.

We wanted a small, quiet shop that answers those questions before they are asked, and an identity simple enough for two people to apply to labels, boxes and posts without a designer.

Approach

Three decisions that shaped it.

01

A mark made by hand

The wordmark started as a brushed signature from one of the founders. We redrew it just enough to work on a stamp, a label and a favicon.

02

Product pages that answer

Each piece shows its size against a hand, the glaze in daylight and the shipping time in plain words. Most of the old questions now have an answer on the page.

03

Drops, not a catalogue

Instead of a permanent catalogue, Oda releases small batches. A short waiting list and a calm countdown replaced the stream of direct messages.

03

Label and packaging studies, before the final wordmark.

Outcome

“We used to answer messages until midnight. Now the shop does it for us, and it looks like our studio.”

The new shop opened in spring 2024. Since then every batch has sold out, and the founders run drops, labels and posts on their own with the identity kit we made together.
